Writely another piece in Googles Puzzle

As I have previously predicted Google will be creating a word and excel replacement as that is really what is locking businesses to Microsoft. The other lock was lotus notes and Exchange software. IBM has created a linux version of lotus notes but I suspect Googles new Calendar software will serve that purspose with the only drawback is the current legacy apps written for Exchange/Lotus Notes.

In the latest google blog there is a post about the Google purchasing Upstartle
a silicon Valley startup which makes Writely, a collaborative word processor that runs in a web browser. I believe that word base web browsers are the way forward as long as people trust the company hosting the data.

I still have a gut feeling that writely software will be included in the gmail application and when that happens Google should probably change the gmail name as its now the foundation of GTalk, Page Creator, Google Base and soon to be google payments.

The next step is a web excel replacement which is a much harder piece of the puzzle to find or create.
