Tatupu NFL Rookie of the Year 2005

NFL is currently creating an online vote for 2005 Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year. The nominees are linebacker Shawne Merriman of the San Diego Chargers, linebacker Lofa Tatupu of the Seattle Seahawks, linebacker Odell Thurman of the Cincinnati Bengals, linebacker DeMarcus Ware of the Dallas Cowboys and running back Carnell "Cadillac" Williams of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

I have already blogged how Tatupu should have been the defensive rookie of the year.

The following are my reasons Tatopu should be the NFL Rookie of the year
  • Only the second time a rookie has led the seahawks in tackles
  • Tatupu is the quarteback of the Seattle defense which has improved significantly
  • He is the only rookie on the list that is still in the playoffs
  • He led all tacklers in the Seatle vs Washington Final
  • Seatle still won without Shaun Alexander

I would say that Cadillac Williams was the better player in the year but for me the real question is who is the most Valuable player. Out of all the player who has had the most influences I would argue for Tatupu.
