NFL Nick Goings White Running Back
Desaun Foster has just broken his ankle in the Bears vs Panthers final. This means that Nick Goings will be the Starting running back. I cant remember the last time I saw a white running back in the NFL finals in fact I cant. I only read about them from old sports illustrated magazines.
I once read a very good article how the white running back is discriminated against because of the perceptions of US coaches. This can also be said about white American Basketballers but may be changing this year. From what I understand the perception in the US is that black athletes must be faster and stronger and so possible white running backs are made into wide receiviers, full backs, backs etc.
I like to root for underdogs, Nick goings color shouldnt matter but it does because he is breaking a typecast. That is also why I like a 5ft11 samoan linebacker. It going to be interesting to see who wins the battle between Nick Goings and Lofa Tatupu. The main thing is two athletes that wouldnt normally be playing because of their color or size are able to battle the stereotypes and make it in one of biggest sport stages in the world. This is why I fell in love with sports and I hope they both do well.
Nick Goings Bio from Wikipedia
High school career
At Dublin Scioto High School in Dublin, Ohio, Nick Goings rushed for 5,785 yards and scored 82 touchdowns.
College career
Goings started at Ohio State University. His freshman year, he had 56 yards on 12 carries before suffering a neck stinger that ended his season. His second year, he carried the ball 9 times for 24 yards. Following that year, he transferred to the University of Pittsburgh, and he was forced to sit out due to NCAA rules. His productivity increased with the Panthers, and over the two years he played in Pittsburgh he compiled 765 yards on 185 carries, with 6 touchdowns.
Pro career
Goings went undrafted, but signed with the Carolina Panthers as a free agent. He was used sparingly, mostly on third down carries to give the starting backs a break. He was also placed on special teams. However, his role began to expand with the change in offense once Jake Delhomme took over as quarterback. He scored his first NFL touchdown against the Tennessee Titans on an eight-yard reception from Delhomme. During the 2004 NFL season, Goings went from fourth on the depth chart to starter, once Stephen Davis, DeShaun Foster, and Rod Smart all went down with injuries. Goings led the team in rushing, and played in all sixteen games. His 121-yard, 3 touchdown performance against the Arizona Cardinals earned him NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. He also led the NFL with five 100-yard rushing games, and tied Davis' team record with four consecutive 100 yard games. The next season, he moved up to the third slot on the depth chart, and thanks to his impressive 2004 season, he was used much more often in game situations. With another injury to Davis, he was the backup to Foster towards the end of the season.

Wow, george, you really don't know what your talking about do you. Nick isn't samoan, he's half black and half white. I grow up around the block from him and his younger sister Tiffany and have gone to school with Tiffany sicne 1st grade. Maybe you should get your facts straight before you write some absurd article about someone's color.
Lofa Tatupu is samoan not Nick Goings.
Thanks for the clarification as I hadnt read that fact about Nick Goings background.
Thanks for the information and negates this article. Refer my perception is reality article to understand where I am coming from
The white running back article I read about and got from daily links at Bill Simmons page was based on Nick Goings. That is why I got the wrong impression on Nick Goings.

This was terribly written. Do you know the English language?? I suggest learning it (at least acquiring knowledge beyond that of a 4th grader) before posting your shit on the Internet.
Nick is half black you idiot. Hung out with the guy in the QC at Boardwalk Billies. Great guy...sure he doesnt appreciate your BS article.
Yeah, we'd like to chime in and say firsthand that he is half black. Not white. George is dumb.
I am trying to find out family background, like parents' names, etc. I think I may be related to him. My maiden name is Goings and I have family in Columbus, Ohio. Does anyone know where to find that type of info?
