Make ethanol at home with still building kits

An article on making ethanol at home. Bill Sasher — the father of do-it-yourself ethanol starting a business in selling ethanol still building kits. It seems the still used ot make moonshine have been converted to make ethanol.

By filling 15 percent of your car's gas tank with ethanol, you can bring down the price-per-gallon from $3 to about $2.40... Of course, if you don't add the ingredient that makes ethanol unfit for human consumption, you would find yourself with something else: 190 proof moonshine.

The ethanol kit uses corn but I am sure you could use the same kit for sugarcane. It would be interesting how this would work in fiji as average income from a cane farm is less the ten thousand dollars. I can see a lot of farmers using ethanol kits for extra income but question is the ethanol ready vehicles that are in Fiji

George, I heard that story on the radio, but there was one bit added. They can blow up!
Are you seriously thinking that this is the way for the Fiji sugar industry to go?

Fiji Sugar Industry has their own plans for ethanol, which is probably similar to "ethanol still" but with a much larger magnitude.

My point is what would happen if a small community of cane farmers bought a ethanol still and used it to discount their fule for tractors and cane trucks and sell it to surrounding farmers.

I am guessing they would make more money from ethanol then selling cane to the mill

Just this week in Geelong there is talk of a biodiesel plant here using palm oil, which I presume they would import (maybe coconut oil from Fiji?) They are putting a heap of money into the project, so it's looking good.

Hi, I wanted to comment on people claiming a still to blow up.The device is actualy a dryer. the part that can blow up is the bioler it self if it was sealed and the pressure had no where to go. becuse od the cooling gas reduced to liquid By 16,000 time ther for reduction of pressure, it was an old days thing in the 20, becuse they never had release valves to reduce presure,, so to answer the question/ comment , the dryer can not blow up it the boiler the is dangerious but id there is a relief valve there is no danger.

Richard Laurin ,, Canada ps its not eligal to run a still in Canada

If too many people make their own fuel, there will be laws imposed making it a huge hassle and expense to do it legally. At that point, what hard working, law abiding citizen wants to waste their time and money trying something new. This is why our new government (Corporate America) thinks of people as commodities. The closer we are to being working poor, the easier we are driven, like obediant cattle.
