MOPE management of perception economy

One of my beliefs in life is that perception is more important then reality and its one of my favorite posts is how perception is reality. So it interesting to me to try and find out what does the term MOPE  (management of perception economy) mean.

MOPE is the constant massaging and manipulation that Big Media and our Governments engage in to keep the masses unaware of what's really going on.

Example 1,,, The downtrend in the upward revised unemployment figures came in above expectations hence the dollar rallied and grains and oil plummeted on the news.

Example 2,,, The uptrend in the downward revised employment figures came in below fears hence the dollar rallied and grains and oil plummeted on the news.

Double-speak, lies, statistics, basically anything but the real story. In my experience if you give people a reason for an event or statistics they will usually take it at face value without going into and questioning the details as long as it sound plausible.

The reality is that MOPE has become standard operating procedure for most successful companies the problem is that if everyone keeps massaging negative stories you will not be able to accurately measure performance. If you cant measure performance how do you know if you are on the right track or the one with the oncoming train.
